The Archive of the Romanian Revolution of December 1989

A Catch-22 December 1989, Groundhog-Day Production. Presenting the Personal Research & Scholarship of Richard Andrew Hall, Ph.D.

“Un colonel din Contra-informatiile militare vrea adevarul,” NU (Cluj), nr. 30 (27 octombrie – 2 noiembrie 1990), p. 7.

(purely personal views as always, based on decades of prior research and writing)

Not for nothing it seems, did then deposed Prime Minister Petre Roman, late 1991-1992, allege that the opposition, student publication NU was not all it seemed on the surface… (I have one such intervention in NU nr. 59, 2-9 decembrie 1991, in which Roman suggested that NU “was and is controlled by the (former) Securitate”…NU was engaged at the time in an anti-Roman campaign that indeed resembled what was happening in the pro-Iliescu, pro-FDSN, SRI and former Securitate-infiltrated and influenced press)…

Below, an article in which a “military counter-intelligence colonel” demands the ‘truth.’ Nowhere in the article, does it seem to bother to mention that “military counter-intelligence” was the Securitate’s Fourth Directorate (and not surprisingly enough, the unnamed individual comes out strongly in defense of the military prosecutor, Col. Domsa, who had his own former Securitate ties).

By issue nr. 32, the anonymous former CI-ist’s allegations would…include the emerging Securitate narrative against the Army’s DIA, to suggest that they and not the Securitate, were the real criminals of December 1989….
